All About Commissions

It happens more often than you think: someone will email me about a landmark piece that sold and when I say that we can make them another one, we never hear back. Or I’ll get a message asking if we have a {insert landmark here} piece, to which I’ll reply “no, but we do take commissions!”…also to never hear back. It makes me think that people are a little scared off by the idea of a commission so I wanted to answer some questions to hopefully quell some of your fears. Just keep in mind that each artist will be different when it comes to their commissions, but this is how we handle them…

What is a commission?

A commission is just a fancy way of saying that we will make a piece specifically for you! No one will be able to buy it out from under you and you will have more control over some aspects of the design like the sky color and size. We don’t accept every single commission idea…we don’t do logos or images with people/buildings/bridges/etc. A lot of our commissions are the view from an engagement location or elopement wedding, or the view from a campsite, favorite vacation spot, or epic hike. You can see examples of previous commissions here.

How often do we accept commissions?

We accept commissions most of the year. The only time when we may be too busy to accept any would be right before Christmas.

How much does it cost to commission a piece?

We don’t charge extra for commissions, so our normal landmark prices will be the cost of your special piece! The only added cost will be shipping.

How long will it take to make?

This really depends on the time of year and how busy we are. We just completed two commissions in 1 week (it’s currently February and we don’t have any art festivals), but sometimes it could take 2 months (if we’re in busy show season). Best to give us some time if you’re on a deadline, especially in the spring and fall and right before Christmas! Send us a DM or email and we can give you a better idea of our timing :)
